The client asked for a complete remodel of their recently purchased home to better fit their needs. The original 3,000-square-foot ranch-style home was built in 1968 and had a fire in 2018. The design challenge called for expanding the kitchen, taking out the center-bearing wall, and reducing it from 5 bedrooms to 4 bedrooms.
Designer Note: Whenever you’re remodeling, it’s best to consult an engineer to determine possibilities with load-bearing walls. Open spaces are nice but beams deep enough to cover the span could be costly.
